Causes of stress. The situations and pressures that cause stress are known as stressors. … Of course, not all stress is caused by external factors. Stress can also be internal or self-generated, when you worry excessively about something that may or may not happen, or have irrational, pessimistic thoughts about life.

Examples of life stresses are:
  • The death of a loved one.
  • Divorce.
  • Loss of a job.
  • Increase in financial obligations.
  • Getting married.
  • Moving to a new home.
  • Chronic illness or injury.
  • Emotional problems (depression, anxiety, anger, grief, guilt, low self-esteem)
  • Physical symptoms of stress include:
    • Low energy.
    • Headaches.
    • Upset stomach, including diarrhea, constipation, and nausea.
    • Aches, pains, and tense muscles.
    • Chest pain and rapid heartbeat.
    • Insomnia.
    • Frequent colds and infections.
    • Loss of sexual desire and/or ability.

Some examples of good ways to deal with stress:
    1. Take some deep breaths.
    2. Talk to someone you trust.
    3. Create a stress diary, note down when you feel stressed and why.
    4. Have a health check with your doctor.
    5. Exercise.
    6. Eat a healthy, balanced diet.
    7. Try to avoid smoking, alcohol and caffeine.
    8. Make time for things you enjoy.

Couples and marriage counseling follows a path beginning with assessment of the strengths and growth areas of the relationship and ending with meeting the joint goals of the couple and therapist. In the middle, the couple will work to better understand their partner, rebuild trust, and learn healthy skills to create and maintain healthy communication (connecting mentally, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and physically) and forgiveness.
